ISLAMABAD - Secretary Interior, Khawaja Siddique Akbar, on the directions of Interior Minister Rehman Malik, has convened a meeting next week on the security of Chinese people working in Pakistan on different development projects, an official of the Ministry of Interior informed.
Well-placed sources in the ministry told TheNation that a meeting had been summoned following an intelligence report issued by the National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) of the Ministry of Interior that Chinese working in Pakistan were under security threat from some extremist elements and those involved in activities of kidnapping for ransom.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik would preside over the meeting while senior officers of the ministry, ICT police and other law enforcement agencies would attend the meeting.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik, the other day, while chairing a meeting to review the law and order situation directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Islamabad, to take special care of Chinese working in the capital and its outskirts. He also directed the Secretary Interior to convene a meeting on the security of Chinese working in Pakistan.
