QUETTA - At least two people were killed and eight others wounded when a bomb was detonated remotely in Sariab area of Quetta city on Sunday. Two policemen were shot dead in an attack on a security checkpost in Loralai.

According to police, two people were killed when an explosive device fitted to a cycle, parked between two trucks in Khalifa street of Killi Bangulzai neighbourhood, went off with a bang.  A police official, namely Javed, said the dead and the injured were all passers-by.

Frontier Corps and police rushed and cordoned off the area. The wounded were ferried to Civil Hospital, where three of them were stated to be in serious condition. Identity of the dead could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.  Police said around three to four kilos of explosive material was used in the blast which was so powerful that it shattered the windowpanes of nearby shops and buildings and was heard in a distance.

Of the injured, seven were identified as Zulfiqar, Zahid Shah, Younas Khan, Zahir Khan, Asif, Kaleemullah and Kareem Bakhsh. Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch condemned the blast and ordered possible best treatment for the injured. There was no immediate claim about the responsibility for the attack. Investigation into the explosion is in an advanced stage.

Meanwhile, two policemen were shot dead and another wounded after a security checkpost came under attack by some armed assailants in Loralai district, some 300-km away from here, on Sunday. The outlaws attacked a police check-post at Zangiwal in Loralai, killing two policemen on the spot while another sustained severe injuries. After the attack, the assailants managed to flee from the scene.


At least four children were injured in a landmine blast in Puner Senhri area of Jaffarabad district, on Sunday. According to the sources, four children were their way at Puner Senri area when one of the child stepped on a landmine. As result, four children sustained injuries.

Police rushed to the site after the incident and the injured were taken to the Larkana for treatment after providing them first aid.

The injured were identified as Abid, Hussain, Mehran and Muhammad Nawaz.

A case has been registered against unknown persons and investigations are underway.
