Through the columns of your esteemed paper I want to commend the positive initiative taken by the government to curb illicit tobacco business. I appreciate the ‘Anti-Illicit Tobacco and Cigarette Unit’ working under the Inland Revenue Wing of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for launching a successful wide ranged drive against all segments of this sector. It is good to know that during the drive they have confiscated millions of locally manufactured and foreign brands untaxed cigarettes that cause loss worth billions of rupees to the national exchequer. Here I would like to urge the government to continue such efforts to keep a constant check on people involved in this illegal practice.
