Samir reaches UNSW finals

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s Samir Iftikhar stormed in to finals of the UNSW invitational being held in Wellington North Carolina beating Jean Baptiste Mateo 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4.
The 4-hour battle witnessed some grueling base line rallies as Samir grinded his opponent from the baseline as he made a huge come back in the match after losing the first set.  He will now represent UNM in the Flight A single’s championship final against VCU’s Alejandro Argente,
Samir has been ranked 115 and is playing his first tournament of the season 2013-14 after winning Prestigious Mountain West Men’s Tennis Award with his exceptional results in 2012- 2013 NCAA Intervarsity Tennis season. The other Universities participating in the tournament include East Carolina, Liberty, UT-Chattanooga, North Carolina Central and VCU.
Talking to The Nation on Sunday Samir’s father former Davis Cupper Tayyab Iftikhar showed dejection over the behaviour of the  PTF and alleged that the PTF was deliberately neglecting Samir and lending him no support to enable him play on ITF futures tour. He appealed to the PTF t support Samir for the national cause by keeping all differences aside.
