Rana puts onus on team management for results

LAHORE - Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) secretary Rana Mujahid Monday said the selection committee and team management would be responsible for whatever results Pakistan team produce in Asian Games.  Talking to the reporters here at the National Hockey Stadium, Rana said: “We have given full authority to the national selection committee and team managed to choose the best team for the Asian Games. Now it’s their responsibility to pick the best out of available lot as they will be responsible for the results not the federation.” He said that the International Hockey Federation (FIH) will extend cooperation for restoration of international hockey ties in Pakistan.  "FIH president Leandro Negre has assured his all-out cooperation for the resumption of international hockey in Pakistan and we are confident that day is not far when foreign teams will start visiting Pakistan," he said while talking to the reporters here at the National Hockey Stadium.
He said that PHF president Akhtar Rasool Chaudhary was elected as member of the AHF executive board while he as AHF vice president. "We had very productive meeting with the FIH president in which we pleaded the case of Pakistan hockey in a very good way. The FIH chief said that it was unfortunate that foreign teams are not visiting Pakistan owing to security concerns and efforts would be made from the platform of FIH to help Pakistan to re-start its international hockey commitments."
He said in the first step, Asian teams would be invited to visit Pakistan as confidence building measure. "With the visit of Asian teams, we will be able to persuade the top notch to visit Pakistan," he added.  Mujahid said Akhtar and his election in the Asian body was a big honour for the country and they will be making efforts for the cause of Pakistan hockey at the forum of the AHF.  They also greeted Pakistani Tayyab Ikram on his election as the AHF chief executive officer.
