KARACHI - Police in Karachi claimed of killing three alleged militants and a robber on Monday, while least three people were gunned down by unidentified assailants in different incidents in the metropolis.
The suspected militants were killed in an alleged police encounter at Pak Colony area of District West when investigation police of District West conducted a raid at their hideout, according to police. Police said the militants offered massive resistance during the raid and three of them were killed in exchange of fire.
Inspector Munir Chandio claimed that the killed militants were affiliated with a banned outfit and were involved in number of target killings. The group he said was also behind killing of some policemen and involved in various other cases of crime including extortion and robberies.
The officer said the killed militants, later identified as Khalid, Zeeshan and Katoor Khan, were involved in the killing of Special Security Unit ASI Hamid Khattak. The suspects were also said to be involved in bomb blasts in Pirabad and Frontier Colony areas of District West. Police also claimed to have recovered weapons, including machinegun, from the hideout.
In another encounter between police and robbers in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, one alleged criminal was killed while his companion managed to escape. Police said the encounter took place when the two men riding a motorcycle were trying to flee after injuring two passersby, Javed and Akram, over offering resistance on a robbing bid. On patrol policemen reached the site and tried to intercept the bandits, who fired on the cops trigging a gunfight in which one of the alleged bandits died on the spot while his accomplice managed to escape.
In another violent incident, armed assailants shot dead a young man, Haji Muhammad, 25, son of Jannat Gul, near Raheem Shah Graveyard of Orangi Town. Mominabad Police said the deceased hailed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was shot once in the head by the attackers for unknown reason.
A private security company’s employee was shot dead by unidentified assailants near a nullah in Malir locality within the limits of Sharafi Goth police station. The deceased, Waqar Khan, 35, son of Khan Gul, was a resident of the same area and he was killed unidentified motorcyclists apparently over personal enmity. Meanwhile, body of young man was found from Manghopir locality. Locals spoted the body and informed the police who shifted the body to Sohrab Goth morgue for identification.
