Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan has sought international humanitarian agency’s support to launch a pilot project on school feeding in rural Islamabad on Brazilian model.
“Food security is one of the priority areas defined in Pakistan Vision 2025, but, unfortunately the food industry in Pakistan lacks diversification resulting in malnutrition even in well fed communities,” Bosan said while meeting a delegation of World Food Program (WFP) executive board. The Executive Board is presently visiting Pakistan and is scheduled to meet provincial stakeholders also.
Bosan stressed on continuation of agency’s support in rehabilitation for IDPs and sought similar support in the launch of pilot project on school feeding, designed on Brazilian model in rural Islamabad.
The visiting executives acknowledged the contribution of 73,000 metric tons of wheat from the federal and provincial governments last year, 150,000 metric tons of wheat in 2013, making government as WFP’s second largest donor in the country in 2013.
The delegation comprised of Crisantos Obama Ondo, Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Equatorial Guinea; Ms Sylvia Maria , Minister Counsellor and Alternate Permanent Representative Guatemala; Samuel Beever, Counsellor and Alternate Permanent Representative and President WFP executie board; Ms Elizabeth Petrovski , USAID finance and oversight specialist and Andrzej Halasiewicz, Minister counselor and Permanent Representative Poland.
