JI rejects hike in electricity, gas tariff

KARACHI - Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh General Secretary Mumtaz Sahto on Saturday said that recent increase in the prices of gas and electricity by the federal government was totally against the claim of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf that it would provide relief to the common man.

In a statement issued here, Sahto was of the view that hike in gas and electricity prices was tantamount to public enmity as the common man will be hurt directly through this decision. “The PTI leadership had promised to provide relief to people ahead of the general polls but immediately after coming into the power it started acting totally against it,” he said.

The JI leader added that the PTI had vowed to start delivering in its first 100 days but the people are disappointed because of such decisions. He urged the PTI-led federal government to fulfil all the promises it made with the people of Pakistan while it were in opposition.

He was of the view that the electricity consumers would have to pay additional billions of rupees as the unit is increased by Rs 2. The federal government should take effective measures to overcome the issues instead of dropping inflation bomb on the common man.

Sahto asked the authorities concerned to take strict action against the thefts of electricity and gas instead of increasing the prices for the inhabitants. “Comprehensive mechanism should be formed to tackle the thefts and those involved in corruption, appointments on nepotism so that each institution could run effectively,” he demanded.
