It is a norm of our society to criticize the policies of government well before their results are in. It is so irresponsible an attitude that no other nation has it. I think it important for us all to be a little more patient and wait for events to mature. The folly of our impatient behavior was clearly evident when the Army started the Operation Rah-e-Raast in Swat and tribal areas. Everyone immediately started criticizing the Army and government and assumed that not enough was being done to curb the menace of terrorism. Once the Operation Rah-e-Raast was completed, we all realised that peace had been restored and things were again getting back to normal after all. The same hasty behavior in other things is in force right now and everybody is jumping to premature conclusions about our governments performance on law and order. Criticism is good but it should be within limits. We must also start appreciating what our government has already done or is trying to do. Democracy requires time. -FARUKH SARWAR, Islamabad, April 9.
