We, the residents of Sindhi Jamaat Cooperative Housing Society and nearby villages in Bin Qasim Town, Karachi wish to express our concern on illegal settlement of Afghan refugees in large numbers in our area. These refugees have occupied very valuable land owned by Sindh government alongside the main National Highway Karachi. The land that this mafia has occupied includes about 30 acres of land opposite Sindhi Jamaat Cooperative Housing Society in Bin Qasim Town also. Now they have demarcated this land into residential and commercial plots and are openly selling it. It is learnt reliably that 80 percent of the plots they have sold are to other Afghan refugees. This grabbed piece of land has now been named as 'Village Hassan Punhawar Residency in papers in order to get undue benefit from it. We appeal to the Sindh govt to take serious action against this illegal settlement. -MARVI MEMON, Karachi, April 9.
