ISLAMABAD - Taking notice of the violation of elections code of conduct, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed Chief Secretary Sindh to stop former Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah from using official protocol for his political meetings.
In this regard, Secretary ECP Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan has written a letter to Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas and directed him to convey to former Chief Minister Sindh to avoid the use of such protocol as it is violation of code of conduct as well as against the principles of provision of level playing field to all contesting candidates.
The sources in the ECP told that the said letter read that the former Chief Minister Sindh, as reported in the Press, is attending political meetings with official protocol in violation of the laws and rules.
“It has also been reported that Deputy Commissioner and District Police Officer (DPO) Khairpur were previously working as Secretary and Security in-charge at the residence of former Chief Minister at Khairpur,” reads the letter.
It is further said in the letter that the Election Commission took serious view of the above said report and directed Chief Secretary Sindh that the said officers may immediately be transferred from Sindh province and a compliance report be furnished to this Commission within three days.
Similarly, regarding the issue related to the use of official protocol by Qaim Ali Shah, the Secretary ECP directed to convey the former Chief Minister to avoid the use of such protocol.
He further directed that the action taken in the matter may also be intimated.
