Police go heartless at PIC

LAHORE - Police thrashed journalists and pharmacists outside Punjab Institute of Cardiology yesterday, triggering protests of journalist bodies.
Pharmacists were staging demonstration outside the PIC to protest against dismissal of one of their colleague Fareeha Majeed. Security guards asked reporters and cameramen of private TV channels to vacate place. Later, they called Police who brutally tortured reporters and cameramen. Waqt TV reporter Faraz Nizam and cameraman Shehroz received multiple injuries that caused their hospitalization.
Journalist bodies including Lahore Press Club, Federal Union of Journalist and Electronic Media Reporters Association staged a demonstration outside the LPC, demanding action against the responsible Police officials. They warned strong protest if action was not taken against the culprits.
Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and sought a report from CCPO Lahore. Condemning Police torture on Waqt News team, he directed investigation and action against the persons responsible.
