LAHORE – The Lahore High Court on Thursday restrained Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arresting former principal secretary and staff officer of Punjab chief minister allegedly involved in a case of issuing false intelligence report on murder plot of former LHC Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif.

Toqeer Shah and Talha Barki filed a petition through Khawaja Haris and submitted FIA had registered the case on baseless grounds. Petitioners contended they had no role in the alleged plot of Justice Sharif but the FIA intentionally implicated them in the case. The counsel said that FIA was harassing his clients and not giving a copy of FIR required for legal process.

Justice Anwar ul Haq heard the initial arguments and directed Deputy Attorney General Iftikhar Shahid provide copy of FIR to petitioners. The judge also directed the FIA not to arrest the both officers till Friday (today).

ADJOURNED: An anti-corruption court on Thursday adjourned a post-arrest bail petition of Punjab Livestock Department Director General Dr Muhammad Irfan accused of misappropriating Rs 478 million allocated for milk processing plants by August 10 (today) after ACE lawyers sought time for arguments.

On Thursday, lawyers of the accused completed their arguments but Anti-corruption Establishment (ACE) counsel sought more time for arguments. As per details, the former L&DD Director General Dr Irfan Zahid and Idara-e-Kisan CEO Ameeruddin Bokhari and other arrested officers had filed a petition for granting of bail.

The counsels for the L&DD officers including Rana Ejaz Advocate, Talib Hussain Baloch, Mansoor Rehman Afridi and others apprised the court that their clients were innocent and the ACE could not prove any link with the embezzlement of funds so the bail be granted.
