ISLAMABAD - A conspiracy had been hatched against Pakistan and the government by issuing 250 Indian visas to Pakistani Hindu families without checking facts and actual position, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Thursday.
After attending an Iftar dinner, he was responding to journalists’ queries about the media reports that 60 Hindu families recently had migrated to India.
The minister said that the government had stopped those 250 Hindus, intending to migrate from Jacbobad (Sindh) to India, and the Indian High Commission should tell why it issued visas to these families.
The minorities could not leave the country without permission of the interior ministry, Malik said. He said that the government was keen to provide complete security to minorities, but it would thoroughly probe the matter and allow the said migrants to travel only after authorities are satisfied.
In Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday took notice of Hindu families’ migration from Jacobabad to India due to lawlessness. The chief minister has constituted a three-member committee headed by provincial minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla. The committee will hold meetings with minority families within 24 hours and investigate the matter and then report to the CM in three days.
According to reports, around 60 families have already migrated to India owing to poor law and order situation in Jacobabad.
In his press talk, Rehman Malik also said he would soon expose a ‘petition mafia’ active in the country to inflame misunderstandings and even clash between the executive and the judiciary. He said the court was obviously bound to hear any petition filed by anyone.
The minister said certain blackmailers file petitions in every matter with the aim to create controversies. He said he would give the names of this mafia people and chief justice should take action against them.
“Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) respects the judiciary and cannot even think of disgracing the judiciary. The government does not want clash of institutions,” he said, adding that PPP was only fighting a legal battle. President Asif Ali Zardari always talked about reconciliation and accommodating everyone, he added.
Malik said the government would provide security to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan during his visit to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He urged the Taliban to join the national mainstream and work for the welfare of the country along with others.
Agencies add: MQM Coordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement, while condemning increasing incidents of kidnapping for ransom and murder of Hindus in Jaccobabad, expressed concern over migration of a number of Hindu families to India as a desperate step because of unbridled crimes against their community. It said there was growing sense of insecurity in Hindu community and called for urgent steps to protect their life and property.
It demanded President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Perveiz Ashraf, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take serious notice of Hindu families migration to India.
