KARACHI - Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that the present democratic government has formed ministry for the protection of the rights of the minorities after 18th amendment in the Constitution.

The purpose of the ministry is not only to safeguard the rights of the minorities but it will also solve the problems of the minorities on priority basis,” he said while talking to various delegations at his office on Thursday. While welcoming the move to celebrate August 11 as Minorities Day by the government, he said that it was also a big achievement of the government that it had fixed five percent quota for minorities in government jobs. The minister added by celebrating Minorities Day, it will promote tolerance for minorities in the society and it is a fact that minorities are also playing their due role in the development of the country. He said that number of seats had been increased in the Senate for minorities and it would create a sense of protection among the minorities.

Chawla said that seminars and debates should be conducted at all level to create harmony among religions and tolerance for the minorities.

He ruled out the concept that minorities were feeling uncomfortable in Sindh.

 On this occasion, the members of minorities community informed the minister about their problems and he assured them that the problems will be resolved soon.
