The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has reiterated continued support to the cause of the Kashmiri people, who are suffering at the hands of occupying Indian forces, and has called for a just resolution of the conflict in accordance with the aspiration of the Kashmiris. He was talking to the AJK President Sardar Yaqoob Khan who called on him at his Jeddah office on Wednesday. Sardar Yaqoob also met the OIC’s Special Representative on Kashmir, Abdullah Abdul Rehman Alim. The AJK President praised for the role played by OIC and its contact group on Kashmir.

The OIC must continue to exert pressure on India trying to ensure that it moves towards finding a peaceful solution of the dispute that endangers peace in South Asian and remains a big irritant in normalizing relations between the two major Saarc partners. Unfortunately, the OIC’s response to the untold miseries of the Kashmiri people and to the dispute itself has, so far, been half-hearted. But it is not only the OIC to be blamed. The UN Security Council, which passed two resolutions urging India to hold a plebiscite to let Kashmiris determine their future, hardly bothers about the injustice of forcible occupation. Innocent Kashmiris are suffering the atrocities unleashed by 700,000 Indian soldiers. It is about time the issue was resolved.
