Two soldiers killed in cross border attack

ISLAMABAD - Two Pakistani soldiers were killed on Thursday when militants from across the Afghan border attacked a checkpost with automatic weapons in Upper Dir, reported a private TV channel.
The incident took place in Upper Dir District. The militants first fired about half a dozen rockets and then opened fire with automatic weapons. In retaliation, the security forces gunned down at least nine militants while another 13 were injured. Both countries have been blaming each other for the sporadic cross-border attacks.
Afghanistan accuses Pakistani security forces of firing rockets into its territory, while Islamabad says Kabul has done little to prevent the cross-border militant attacks.
Afghanistan’s defence minister Abdul Rahim Wardak abruptly resigned on Tuesday last over cross-border attacks into Afghanistan.
