ISLAMABAD (APP) - Pakistan and Chile have great potential of trading and investment in many sectors, which are needed to be exploited through greater cooperation between the two countries, said Trade Commissioner of Chile in UAE, Carlos Salas here on Thursday. Carlos Salas was speaking in a meeting at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI). Honorary Consul, Dr. Maria Catalina Allienda was also present at the occasion. The Trade Commissioner said that Chile wants to create further opportunities to increase the present volume of trade and the purpose of his visit was to find out the possibilities of areas of more cooperation. He said that chambers of commerce and Industry can play an important role in building trade relations between the entrepreneurs of both the countries. Carlos Sales showed great interest in marble, paper and food and vegetable sectors. He also visited Metro and fruits and vegetable market to meet the suppliers and exporters. Dr.Maria Catalina Allienda said that the trade ties are needed to be strengthened and assured that such visits from Chile will continue to tap in further opportunities of business. Mahfooz Elahi, President ICCI highlighted potential of trading and investment in mining, energy, oil and gas, agriculture, infrastructure development, construction and in many other sectors. He said Chilean investors should take advantage of these opportunities and by investing in Pakistan, they cannot only cater to the needs of a rapidly growing domestic market, but could also earn good profits by exporting surplus products around the world. He said that Pakistan is the 4th largest milk producer in the world and invited Chilean businessmen for technological advancement in this sector to help Pakistan to exploit its full potential. The ICCI President said Pakistan and Chile should divert focus from conventional items of trade to non-traditional items. He said that Chile can take advantage of Pakistan by getting services in human resource development as it has expertise in this sector. He said that Foreign Minister of Chile during his last visit to Pakistan in October this year, has expressed the desire for regular exchange of business delegations and recent visit by the Trade Commission, clearly reflects the intention of Chilean government in cementing the trade and economic ties between Chile and Pakistan.
