LAHORE - Some senior police officers of Civil Lines Police Division might be proceeded in connection with the violent clash between students and police in the high security zone, Punjab Assembly on couple of days back, sources said on Thursday. According to them, the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his resentment over the deteriorating situation of law and order in the provincial metropolis. The chief minister has also ordered of initiating a high level inquiry to probe into the matter, which triggered such massive panic, minutes after the untoward incident took place, they added. Sources said seconds after the chief minister expressed his annoyance, the IG Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar appointed Addl IG Ch Tanvir Ahmed as Inquiry Officer (IO) who would report to IG Punjab within couple of days. AIG Ehsanul Haq Bajwa would also assist Ch Tanvir. Insiders said Ch Tanvir would probably visit the Capital City Police Office CCPO today (Friday) where SP Umar Saeed would be asked about the various aspects of the incident. Moreover, the sources revealed that the CCPO Aslam Tareen also moved the findings of his inquiry regarding the aforesaid incident towards the chief minister and IG Punjab on Thursday. According to sources, the findings of the inquiry report read: 'The Civil Lines DSP Multan Khan was deputed at the main gate of the Punjab Assembly where the student leaders and some teachers gathered and urged police officer to call the law makers for negotiation with student leaders. A top police officer, who wished not to be named, said the CCPO further wrote that DSP Multan Khan contacted Ashraf Sohna, provincial minister for labour, and urged him for intervention but the MPA replied him as he was powerless in front of other MPAs as none of them was bothering to pay heed. Meanwhile, provincial law minister Rana Sana Ullah was requested to interfere into the issue but he was also told busy in question-answer session. During this span of time the students managed to enter the Punjab Assembly on which police personnel wielded to baton charge on them, which further infuriated the students, he further told. In fact, according to the findings of the CCPO, SP Umar Saeed was innocent in the said case but now the final decision would be taken after the findings of the Addl IG Punjab Ch Tanvir Ahmed within couple of days, he added. SP Umar Saeed, who was deputed in Civil Lines Police Division, after a former SP Dr Haider Ashraf left the charge and went to attend a promotion course. According to sources, Umar Saeed was quite young and facing such incident first time in his professional career. However, he could not be contacted despite the repeated requests by this scribe.
