LAHORE - Newly-appointed Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry Thursday called for a report from the Inspector General of Police Punjab on the torture on students and the teachers at The Mall on Wednesday when they were protesting against the non-fulfilment of their demands and against the Board of Governors in the government colleges. Taking a suo moto notice on the press reports on the incident, wherein a number of protestors were injured and taken into custody, the chief justice observed that protecting rights of the people was the duty of the judiciary which it would continue to discharge. The CJ directed the IGP to appear with the report on the incident on December 13 next and also called the Advocate General Punjab to get the order complied with through his office.
