Released students vow to continue protest

LAHORE City police on Thursday released all the students and their teachers, who were arrested on Wednesday on the charges of damaging public property and creating lawlessness-like situation at The Mall. Police sources said the students and teachers congratulated each other when they were released from different police stations and vowed to continue their protests against the constitution of Board of Governors in 26 colleges of the province. City police registered two different cases in Islampura and Qila Gujjar Sign police stations against no less than 300 students, mostly unidentified. Two students leaders including Jibran Butt and Haseeb were nominated in the FIR registered in Islampura police station while President Professors and Lectures Association Zahid Ahmed Sheikh and a student Akhtar Nazeer were nominated in the FIR registered in Qila Gujjar Sigh police station. Hundreds of students from different colleges on Wednesday went on the rampage, set two buses on fire, smashed the windowpanes of several private vehicles and pelted the police with stones that led to severe clashes at the Mall Road.
