AHMEDPUR EAST - Bahawalpur National Awami Party Chief Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi will contest election from two constituencies NA-183 Bahawalpur 1 and NA-184 Bahawalpur 2 in the upcoming general elections.

The announced was made in a meeting of the central leaders of the Bahawalpur National Awami Party (BNAP) held here at Sadiq Garh Palace Dera Nawab Sahib.

BNAP President Farooq Azam Malik and Secretary General Mian Ilyas Ayaz presented organisational report while detailed discussions were held to devise a strategy for the upcoming elections.

Spokesman for the BNAP Mian Rafatur Rehman told the newsmen that the BNAP would field its candidates on both NA and PA seats in all three districts of Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar of the division and would opt for seat adjustments in several constituencies with other likeminded political parties.

He said that Nawab Abbasi would not compromise on the revival of the provincial status of Bahawalpur as it was his one point agenda. The spokesman informed that other candidates of BNAP would be announced by its chief in a press conference. It is to be noted that Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi had been elected as MNA in 1977 general elections from Bahawalpur urban seat and four times returned as MNA from Ahmedpur East constituency in 1988,1990,1993 and 1996 general elections.

In 2002 general elections Nawab Abbasi backed Ali Hassan Gillani who won the seat and in 2008 general elections, he nominated Arif Aziz Sheikh who was elected by a big margin of votes. The BNAP chief had also launched a campaign for the PPP candidates in Bahawalpur division in 2008 general elections as a result of an understanding with Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in London.

He had also played a key role in the victory of PML-N candidate Chauhdry Saud Majeed from NA-187 Yezman who had defeated Deputy Premier Ch Pevaiz Elahi. Similarly his nominee Malik Aamar Yar Warran had won the NA -184 Bahawalpur 2 seat as an independent candidate in 2008 elections by defeating the PPP, PML-Q and PML-N candidates.
