ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is known to have ordered 144 dysfunctional railway engines from China in past, causing a massive loss of billions of rupees.

An order of another lot of 50 railway engines from China by Railways’ ministry , within one-year period is underway, while the total annual loss of Railways has reached to an astronomical Rs40 billion.

Sources have disclosed that the 2008 revenue of Pakistan Railways (PR) was Rs.30 billion, while currently it stands at an enormous deficit of Rs 15 billion. During past 198 engines were rendered unfit, due to use of sub-standard engine oil, while forensic investigations , to be completed within 6-months time regarding the issue were underway.
