LAHORE - Hafeez-led Lahore Lions stunned Misbah’s Faisalabad Wolves in the Faysalbank Twenty20 Cricket final here at the jampacked Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.
Batting first, Lahore Lions openers Ahmed Shahzad and Nasir Jamshed collected 44 runs for the opening stand but Ahmed Shahzad (18) was being bowled by Asad. Captain Hafeez and Nasir took the charge and added 51 runs for the second wicket. Imran Khalid claimed Nasir wicket who scored 28-ball 42 runs with five fours. Skipper Hafeez followed him as he was bowled by Ehsan Adil at the score of 22-ball 22. Umar Akmal(20) and Kamran (18) helped Lions to post 154/7 in 20 overs. Eshan Adil claimed 3/23.
Faisalabad Wolves off to bad start as they lost first wicket when score was 11 of Abdul Razzaq. Farrukh Shehzad followed him in the very next over while Asif Ali ran himself out. The Wolves another wicket of Khurram Shahzad (1) while Waqas Ali made was bowled at 25 runs with four fours and one six. But Lions bowlers’ kept Wolves batsmen at bay. Captain Misbah though tried to achieve the target and remained at the crease but failed to finish the match and was out for 37-ball 37 with two fours in final over. Hafeez took 4/11 Razzaq got two wickets.
M Hafeez named player of final while Shahzad of Lions (best batsman), Asad Ali of Faisalabad Wolves (best bowler), Farrukh Shahzad of Wolves (best fielder), Yasir while Kamran Akmal of Lions and Gulraiz Sadaf of Multan Tigers were declared (best wicket-keepers).
