ISLAMABAD – The US government has reaffirmed its commitment to release $ 600 million as Coalition Support Fund to rehabilitate power distribution system and electricity plants. Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh stated this while briefing Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on his recent visit to the United States at the PM's House here on Sunday evening.He said the US would release CSF to rehabilitate power distribution system and electricity plants at Guddu, Jamshoro and Muzaffargarh. The US government also expressed its commitment to assist in completing the Diamir Bhasha Dam for which US $ 200 million had been approved to start the work. He said the two countries also decided to launch a fund for small and medium enterprises in January with initial capital of US $ 80 million which would be enhanced every year.The finance minister informed the prime minister that the objective of the visit was to have dialogue with US on host of issues including trade enhancement, investment promotion, assistance in energy sector and launching of investment funds.He further informed the premier that during the course of his visit he met representatives of the State Department, US Treasury, USAID, trade bodies apart from meeting with US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, the head of OPIC and the US Chamber of Commerce and the Carnegie Institute to project Pakistan's achievements and potential.The finance minister also briefed the prime minister on his meetings with managements of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.The prime minister appreciated the efforts of the financial team led by Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and its success to win international support for Pakistan's economic programme, which was a testimony of confidence in the prudent economic policies of the PPP government by the international community.
