MULTAN-Corruption is a form of terrorism and the nation needs Zarb-e-Azb-like passion to uproot this menace, Punjab Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana declared on Friday
Addressing a seminar organised by NAB Multan in connection with World Anti-Corruption Day, Mr Rajwana described corruption as a cancer, saying the menace has weakened foundations of the country and destroyed national institutions. He said that the entire nation needs to get unite against corruption and wage jihad against it. "We should do politics on national agenda and the political parties must not promote personal agendas," he underlined. The governor said that the NAB performance is good but there always exists room for further improvement. He said that the departments should resolve problems being faced by the common man and give him respect.
"We all should remember the lesson taught by Islam that both the person demanding bribe and the one offering bribe will go to hell. It teaches us to refrain from committing corrupt practices," he asserted.
He pointed out that abuse of power, giving relief to influential people and evading responsibilities are also different forms of corruption. "We need to participate in national development with zeal and passion,' Mr Rajwana emphasised.
Speaking on the occasion, NAB Multan Director General Brig (r) Farooq Nasir Awan said that the nation needs to launch a joint effort to uproot the corruption.
He warned that the country could not make progress until the society is cleared of corruption. He stressed the need for creating awareness in the society on corruption.
Addressing the seminar, Bahauddin Zakariya University Vice Chancellor Prof Tahir Ameen said that the corrupt elements delivered serious losses to the country and nation. He said that the corruption also plagued educational institutions and the only way to improve education sector is to clear them of corrupt elements.
President of Multan Chamber Kh Jalal Uddin Roomi said that corruption was the biggest obstacle in way of economic development. He added that the economy of the country could be promoted by eliminating this menace.
President of Multan Press club Shakeel Anjum also spoke on this occasion. The Governor and DG NAB distributed shields and prizes among the students who participated in different competitions in connection with the World Anti Corruption Day.
