LAHORE - Delegations of Pak Sarzameen Party led by its Chairman Mustafa Kamal and PTI led by Shah Mahmood Qureshi yesterday assured Dr Tahirul Qadri of their full support in latter’s anticipated protest movement against Punjab government.
Leaders of PSP and PTI met Pakistan Awami Tehreek chairman separately at party head office Model Town.
“We are standing with Dr Qadri in his movement to get justice for the families of Model Town victims,” Kamal announced while addressing a joint press conference with Dr Qadri.
Qureshi also uttered the same words in his talk with media after holding an hour-long meeting with the PAT head.
Qureshi delegation comprised Jahangir Tareen, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed and Aleem Khan. Raza Haroon, Iftikhar Randhawa, Mubeen Qazi and others were among PSP 10-member delegation.
PAT’s demand for resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah “in the light of the findings” of Model Town inquiry report following a warning to duo to be ready for protests has already received support from all opposition parties including PTI and PPP.
Zardari’s visit to Model Town on Thursday and Imran’s announcement to support Qadri’s movement were a clear indication that Punjab’s capital to come under protests in coming days.
PML-Q head Ch Shujaat along with his cousin Ch Parvaiz Elahi is visiting PAT head office today. Majlise Wahdatul Muslimeen, a prominent Shia organisation, head Raja Nasir Abbas and Awami Muslim League President Sheikh Rashid also assured Qadri that they would be with him in protests against Punjab government.
A leader of the PAT told The Nation that Dr Qadri’s recent meetings with political parties leaders were held to devise a common strategy for mass protests against Punjab government.
Talking to media, Kamal said Punjab CM Shehbaz and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah were responsible for the Model Town massacre. They said that the innocent people were mercilessly killed by the police.
He said that everyone was busy in saving the government and no one was working for the development of the country.
Qureshi said the PTI would fully support and its workers and supporters would join Dr Qadri’s protest if Shehbaz and Rana Sana refused to step down.
PAT chairman earlier welcomed leaders of both the parties at Model Town and thanked them for showing solidarity with the PAT. He reiterated his demand for Shehbaz and Rana Sana’s resignations and warning to launch a massive campaign to overthrow the Punjab government in case his demand was not met.
