Vonn gets treatment after Super-G run

ST MORITZ - American skier Lindsey Vonn appeared to be injured as she crossed the line in the World Cup Super-G at Saint-Moritz and received medical attention on Saturday. After she finished, Vonn lay down and then struggled to stand up again. Bent over, as if she had pain in the small of her back, 33-year-old Vonn then made her way into a tent reserved for competitors. Swiss skier Jasmine Flury finished first with compatriot Michelle Gisin in second, one tenth of a second behind. Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein was third. Vonn recorded the 17th best time. According to a source close to the American team, Vonn seemed to be suffering from a hip problem. An ambulance drove up but departed empty and a doctor arrived to examine Vonn. The American is one of the most succesful skiers in history.–AFP

 

 

Mixed results for Pak in Malaysia Jr Squash

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Mansoor Zaman Junior lost the semi-final stage of the Malaysian Junior Squash to New Zealand’s Mallhew Lucente 3-2. Mansoor won first two games 11-8and 11-4. But after playing so well, he just ran out of gas and lost next three games 8-11, 9-11 and 7-11.In U-17 semi-final, local Amir Amirul Azhar beat Uzair Shoukat of Pakistan 3-2. Amir won 11-7, 6-11, 11-5, 8-11 11-6. In U-15 semi-final, Pakistan’s Asad Ullah beat Malaysian Ishnat Shahatul 3-2, winning 11-4, 7-11, 4-11, 11-9 and 11-3. In the U-13 semi-final, M Hamza Khan of Pakistan beat Chinese Nathan Sho You 3-0, 11-8, 11-7 and 11-2. Hamza will play Harith Danial Jefri of Malaysia in the final while Asad Ullah will play against Joachim Chuah of Malaysia in the U-15 final.–Staff Reporter

 

 

 

Begum Kulsum ITF Futures Tennis starts

ISLAMABAD - Begum Kulsum ITF Futures Tennis Tournament, 2017 kicked off at Senator Dilawar Abbas Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Complex on Saturday. The Tournament is named after the late Begum Kulsum Saifullah who rendered great services for Pakistan at national and international levels. She is also known for social services and political acumen. The tournament is featuring internationally ranked players from around the world in the qualifying round as well as the main draw. The international players who have already featured in the Serena Hotels ITF Futures Tennis Tournament will also feature in the Begum Kulsum Saifullah ITF Futures Tennis Tournament. National Taekwondo Championship starts

ISLAMABAD - 12th Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Championship 2017, started here at Pakistan Sports Complex, Liaqat Gymnasium on Saturday. This is the biggest taekwondo event in which senior, U/17, U/14 and 5 to 10 years kids will participate. A record number of 45 to 50 teams from provinces, departments, services, Gilgit/Baltistan, AJK, Islamabad and clubs are participating in the event.  On the first day of the championship in male Poomsae U-20 individual, Waseem Javed of Army won gold, Hashim Nayab of Wapda silver and Ahmed Raza of Railways bagged bronze. In U-30 individual male Poomsae, M Rajab Ayub of Punjab won gold, M Mumtaz of Army silver and M Anas of HEC bronze. In U-40 male individual Poomsae, Ghulam Abbas of Army won gold, Uamir Saleem of Wapda silver and M Qayyum of Railways bronze. In U-50 male individual Poomsae, Arif Manzoor of Army won gold, Khalid Saeed of Wapda silver and Mujahid Hussain of Railways bronze. In female U-20 individual Poomsae, Sifia Baig of Wapda won gold, Naqsh Hamdani of Army silver and Zainab of KP bronze. In U-30 female individual Poomsae, Mehr Un Nisa of Army won gold, Asifa Ali of Wapda silver and Laraib Mannan of HEC bronze.
