KARACHI - Sterling M Asif of Punjab produced a dazzling cue control and potting to out-pot Sultan 8-2 in the final of Jubilee Insurance 37th National Snooker Championship on Thursday to regain the crown after two years.

The 29-year-old from Faisalabad, Asif displayed impeccable potting and tactical positional play to stun Sultan at Karachi Billiards Hall here. With Sultan looking in good form, a keen tussle was on the cards in the match but lanky Asif proved too good for him in final to regain the national crown which he last won in 2009.

"Sultan off- coloured after performing creditably to enter the final," he said. "My objective is now to perform well in the upcoming Asian championship," he commented.

By the virtue of reaching the final of the nationals, M Asif and Sultan both qualified to represent Pakistan in the 28th Asian Snooker Championship to be held in Doha (Qatar) from April 20-28.

Managing Director Jubilee Insurance Company Javed Ahmed presented the trophy and Rs.70,000 prize to M Asif. Sindh Secretary and Youth Affairs Shoaib Siddiqui gave the runner-up trophy and cash purse of Rs. 40,000 to Sultan.

The losing semi-finalist, M Sajjad and Naveen Perwani took Rs.15,000 each.  MD Jubilee Insurance Tahir Ahmed, President Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) Alamgir Shaikh, KG President Ali Raheem, KG Sports Convener Mian Shaukat and other officials were also present on the occasion.
