Mr. Pervez Rashid Federal Minister for information is on record saying that no dictator ever benefited the nation, while democracy has always benefited the people. This statement is not correct as a dictator, the late FM Ayub Khan built two mega dams in 10 years, which are still giving benefit to the nation. While democracy, whose every evil is described as “Jamhooriat ka hussan” has failed to build a single mega hydroelectric dam in the past four decades which has turned the country into darkness. This on single act, of not building any dams has rendered 1/3rd of our industry inoperative, ushering in massive unemployment ensuing lawlessness in the country.
That is why it is said that a ‘Kafir’ just king is better than an unjust Muslim ruler, who may be a democrat by name only. No dictator in the past ever doled out 40 crore rupees as Qarz-i-Hasna to his son, as reportedly done by our present finance minister, which he has so far not denied. We often quote example of Hazrat Umar-e-Farooq (RA) for leading a simple life as Amir-ul-Momineen, while our rulers built Jati Umra palatial buildings, posing as emperors and indulged in rampant nepotism unheard of in Muslim history. So praising democracy, that fails to deliver good governance, is no substitute for a benevolent dictator.
