ISLAMABAD - Less than a week when a National Assembly seat fell vacant in Gujranwala, election authorities issued by-polls for a by-election in Multan de-notifying another PML-N MNA as member of the lower house.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) yesterday issued schedule for by-polls in Multan-VI NA-153, issuing de-notification of PML-N leader Deewan Aashiq Hussain Bukhari as MNA.

The by-election on the constituency is scheduled to be held on March 17 for which the commission has asked aspirants to submit nomination papers between February 17 and 18.

The Supreme Court had disqualified PML-N MNA from NA-153 Dewan Aashiq Bukhari for having fake degree of intermediate. The apex court had asked as to how a man could pass the exams of graduation and masters without passing FA.

Earlier, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur had cancelled his degree as he failed to produce the required credentials. Bukhari was challenged by PPP leader Qasim Noon who had doubted his educational qualification.

A week back, the ECP had de-notified another PML-N’s leader Justice (Retd) Iftikhar Ahmed Cheema as MNA and issued schedule for by-election in NA-101 Gujranwala.

By-election in NA-101 is scheduled to be held on March 22. The Supreme Court of Pakistan had disqualified the retired justice as member National Assembly for concealing his financial statements invoking Article 62 and 63 for not being true.
