ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced a generous support of $1 million for the earthquake affected people of Tajikistan in the Gorno Badakhshan Region which was hit by an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude on December 7, 2015, causing destruction of more than 1,330 houses and displacement of over 7,000 persons.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has made arrangements for sending winterized tents, blankets and wheat to tajikistan. The first consignment of 2,100 tents and 12,500 blankets were dispatched today while 1,280 tons of wheat procured from PASSCO will be sent in the following days.

On behalf of the Government of Pakistan, Chairman NDMA Major General Asghar Nawaz handed over the 1st Tranche to Ambassador of Tajikistan Jononov Sherali herer at Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that his government attaches great importance to cooperation with United Kingdom, particularly in the areas of trade and investment.

Prime Minster was talking to outgoing British High Commissioner Philip Barton who paid a farewell call on him at Prime Minsiter’s House yesterday.

The Prime Minister appreciated the role and efforts of Philip Barton in further improving the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Britain.

Philip Barton said that Britain enjoys good friendly relations with Pakistan and highly values the role of Pakistani diaspora living in UK in bringing the two countries closer.

He further said that UK appreciates the role in contribution of Pakistani diaspora in national progress and development of UK.
