KARACHI - Sindh Governor and Chancellor of public sector universities Muhammad Zubair has said that Sindh Madarsatul Islam University (SMIU) has progressed remarkably during a very short span of time and is competing with other universities at the highest level.

This he said while talking to Vice Chancellor SMIU Muhammad Ali Shaikh at the Governor’s House. The Vice Chancellor briefed the governor Sindh about ongoing projects, future plans, establishment of its Malir campus at education city and other relevant matters.

He said: “SMIU is the pride of whole nation being the alma mater of father of the nation. Sindh Madarsah School and College also played a vital role in imparting quality education which is being continued by SMIU.”

The governor praised signing of memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with various foreign universities. These MoUs would help in promotion of higher education in the province. He also lauded the role of Vice Chancellor and his team for progress of the university. He assured solution of the problems of university. Shaikh thanked the Chancellor and assured that he would continue to work under his guidance.

Meanwhile, Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair while addressing the faculty members and students during his visit to Indus University said that higher education was of utmost importance for the progress and prosperity of any country as university graduates play a pivotal role in taking the country forward.

The governor said that establishment of private sector universities had initiated healthy competition for quality enhancement through research and implementation of latest teaching material. This transformation at higher education level is preparing the students more effectively to compete at the highest level, he observed.

Zubair said that research is of paramount importance for any higher education institution as it not only equip the faculty and students in line with the advancements in different fields but also update their knowledge about various matters, Research is the basic tool to be able to compete and be at par with the developed countries, he added. While referring towards establishment of campuses of various public and private sector varsities at Education City Malir, Governor Sindh said that basic purpose of this project is to ensure availability of public and private sector universities at one place.

On pointation of bottlenecks and problems being confronted by private sector universities with regards to establishment of their campuses there, Governor Sindh assured that the same would be looked into and resolved as soon as possible.

The governor praised the management of the University for making it a reputed institution of higher learning. The quality of education at the university makes it an outstanding institution, he added. Zubair said that he was very much impressed with the confidence level of the students of the University and it shows the great work being carried out by the facility here.

 

Youth must be encouraged and trained according to their abilities so as to utilize their services in a befitting manner, he opined

The governor was informed on the occasion that the university was awarded charter in 2012 and currently as many as 5000 students were enrolled here. Chancellor Khalid Amin informed the governor about the problems comforted by the university and asked for his help.
