ISLAMABAD (APP) - The government here on Friday decided to constitute a special task force for load management to ensure proper supply of gas and electricity to industrial sector. Addressing a joint press conference after a detailed meeting, Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Federal Minister for Investment, Waqar Ahmad Khan and President Punjab Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Saeed Azhar Butt said that power supply to industries and nearby areas from captive power plants was also given formal approval. Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that 1000 megawatt additional electricity would generated till June while 2200 megawatt more electricity would be added in the system during the first half of next financial year. He said that investment of $ 30b would be ensured in water and power sector till 2015, including $20b by private sector and $10b by the public sector. He said that government was working to overcome power crisis and expressed the hope that situation would improve by January 25. He said govt wants to help industry flourish and enhance exports from the country. He said that constant supply of electricity was imperative for the development of agriculture and industrial sectors adding that load management schedule would be implemented with the help of industrialists. Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister for Investment, Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan stressed the need for public private partnership to steer the country out of energy crisis. He said that negotiations were held with some Chinese companies for invest in energy sector of Pakistan adding that government's main aim was to enhance electricity production. He said all necessary steps would be taken to ensure proper supply of electricity and gas to industries, adding that load management task force would be responsible to see availability of electricity and devise its strategy accordingly. Speaking on the occasion, PCCI president said that the chambers would nominate their representatives for the task force adding that load management programme would be devised in consultation with trade organizations. He said that provision of electricity from captive power plants was a welcome decision saying that trader would do their best to enhance quality production and exports of the country.
