SHARIAH Courts set up by Taliban in most areas of district Swat of NWFP have once again started functioning despite military operation there. Talking to BBC, Swat Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said that Shariah courts have been established again in tehsil Matta, Khawaza Khaela, Kabal and other areas. According to him, a Shariah bench comprising three Ulemas has been established in each area that dispenses justice according to Shariah. He added that a large number of area residents present their cases before these Ulemas who try to settle them within a day. He claimed that a good number of people are present their cases before them and they have even given two-month time period to some people for settling their issues. Independent sources have also confirmed Taliban courts in Swat. They said besides Mangora, the headquarter of Swat, Taliban have set up Shariah courts in mosques in other areas of Swat. AFP adds: Gunmen Thursday shot dead two govt employees in a tribal area in North Waziristan, where Taliban militants are active, an official said. The ambush took place in North Waziristan near the village of Asadkhel, tribal area's main town of Miranshah. Amanulla Jan, a junior administrator in the town of Razmak, and his security guard were killed, while Jan's deputy and another guard were injured after gunmen hiding on a roadside shot at their car, a local official told AFP. No one claimed responsibility for the attack but Taliban militants have carried out several such attacks against officials and tribal elders supporting military operations across the lawless tribal belt.
