'Govt wants to replace LG system with Almas Bobi-type admin'

ISLAMABAD - Former chairman of National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) Daniyal Aziz has reiterated that the present rulers want to replace the Local Government system with Almas Bobi type administrative system. He was addressing a press conference here at National Press Club on Saturday. District Nazims from all the four provinces of the country were also present on the occasion. Daniyal urged the judiciary to come forward and save democracy, which, he added, is linked to survival of LG system. The representatives of the Local Government were of the view that the present rulers took benefit from LG system and now blaming the local representatives as Musharraf legacy, saying that the rulers gave the safe passage to Pervez Musharraf. They also criticized bureaucracy for creating hurdles in the smooth functioning of LG system for its vested interests. They said that the LG system delivered to a great extent, adding that all efforts would be made to protect the system. They also vowed to stage a protest rally outside the Supreme Court if the situation demanded so to save the LG system. He said that line of action regarding campaign to save the LG system, in Punjab will be announced in the Quetta convention to be held on January 14. Daniyal said that both the bigger political parties had nothing to include in their agenda regarding the Local Government system. He further said that both the political parties should unite the nation on one platform at this critical moment. He was of the view that rulers needed to focus on issues like terrorism and unemployment. He maintained that price hike touched 25 percent from that of 9 percent when administrators replaced elected representatives. District Nazim of Quetta, Mir Maqbool Lehri said that LG system was much essential for the neglected provinces like Balochistan. He condemned the provincial government for abolishing the LG system without realising the ground realities. District Nazim of Haripur, Sardar Yousaf said that LG system won many international awards. He said that they did not commit any mistake to defend the system that was essential for the grass roots level. District Nazim of Sukkur, Nasir Shah was of the view that the Supreme Court should take a sue motto notice for the grass violations of Constitution by the government. To a query, he said that real representatives of the masses were those who served them at their doorstep.
