Sardars and Nawabs

Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Magsi would have mustered a lot of courage to admit what usually is missed from the narrative that the Sardars and Nawabs have always ruled the province for their selfish gains. This is not to absolve the successive governments of their high-handedness, which of course he also touched upon during his address in Sui. Definitely the fault lies with both the sides; the echoes of which could be heard in the Supreme Court’s upbraiding not only of the federal government but also the provincial setup led by the same class of Sardars as well. At present, however, the situation could not be worse, and even the general public feels estranged by the central setup. Most importantly, the security has literally collapsed, which calls for correctional measures by everyone concerned.
The meeting between son of slain Nawab Akbar Bugti, Talal Bugti, and Hafiz Saeed Ahmed on Tuesday agreeing to announce a session of the All Parties Conference soon fits in with this scheme of things. But whatever is to be done and by whosoever, it should be done without further ado; target killers, sectarian killers and dangerous militant networks operate as though there is no one to come after them. What is essential is that the Sardars and Nawabs rather than compounding the situation by making their own impractical demands, become a part of the solution.
