Report unearths Rs 90 million scam in road project

Unearthing Rs90 million fraud, the Communication and Works Department has sent an inquiry report to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on the use of substandard material in the construction of 37 kilometres Sialkot-Sambrial-Wazirabad Road.
The senior officials of C&W Department told newsmen that the department had conducted a detailed inquiry report into the scam. It proved that the contractors used substandard material in the road construction, a mega project worth Rs.290 million with alleged connivance of the sub engineers and staff concerned. It also found out that the the contractors were paid additional amount for the project illegally. The inquiry report has recommended an immediate recovery of the Rs90 million from the contractor, sub-engineers and the staff. The inquiry has also recommended strict departmental action against the officialdom.
WORK AT HEALTHCARE PROJECT STARTS: Philanthropists and exporters of Sialkot have jointly launched Kidney Hospital project with start of its construction on self-help basis to provide free of cost medical treatment for the local people.
Former Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice president Zafar Iqbal said that there was a dire need of establishing a well-equipped kidney hospital at Sialkot. The Kidney Patients Welfare Society Sialkot had planned to establish the hospital at an estimated cost of Rs100 million being donated by the exporters, industrialists and philanthropists.
He said that the kidney hospital would be a great blessing for the four million population of Sialkot district, as the business community would also bear all the expenditures of the hospital in future, he said.
DBA ELECTIONS: The electioneering is in full swing in such cold weather by the aspirant candidates for the annual elections of district and Tehsil bar associations in Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur, scheduled to be held on January 11.
The rival groups’ candidates and their supporters claimed popularity and hoped victory in the elections. They said that if win, would serve the lawyers community and solve their problems. The candidates belonging to different panels claimed to be true leaders of the lawyers and pledged to make efforts to solve their problems.
Seven held separately in Sialkot :Seven people have been arrested by police in different cases here. Federal Investigation Agency arrested four money exchangers Aamir, Nadeem Abbas, Sabir and Akhtar for illegally running the business in Sialkot.
An FIA team recovered the foreign currencies of Rs8.2 million. FIA has sent the accused behind bars after registering a case against them. Police have arrested three persons and registered a case against them for resorting t jubilant firing in front of a marriage hall during the wedding ceremony of Mirza Attiq.
According to the FIR, the accused conducted aerial firing with illicit weapons, which created a panic. The police have also registered a separate case against two accused Ali Husnain and Rizwan Shah Nawaz and arrested them for setting off firework in the wedding ceremony. Police have also arrested accused Shahid Mehmood for doing jubilant firing during the Rasm-e-Hina of groom Jasim Abbas in Muhallah Raiwala. Police took this legal action on the report of the Special Branch Daska. Police have sent the accused behind the bars and have started investigation, in this regard. Moreover police arrested Shahid, Wahab and Ashfaq for illegally selling the patrol at their makeshifts at village Hundal, Ludhar and Bhadaal by violating the official ban in this regard.
