KARACHI - Adviser to Chief Minister Sindh on Information Moula Bakhsh Chandio said yesterday that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) could not even think of confronting the Centre.
Talking to the media, he said the federation would only work when its units would trust it. He said Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was like a viceroy and insulted people even under normal circumstances. He said Ch Nisar did not have the slightest regard even for the prime minister.
Chandio said accountability would lose its meaning if it was used as a tool for taking revenge. He said accountability of people’s representative should be in ‘democratic way’.
“People’s Party cannot even think of confronting the centre, as on the contrary our party has always tried to safeguard the federation,” Chandio said. He said Sindh Rangers and police were successful in establishing peace and order in Karachi.
Chandio said Dr Asim’s life was in danger and that the responsibility of his security lay with those in whose custody he presently was.
Taking a dig at Interior Minister Ch Nisar , he said the minister even went ahead and dictated members of National Assembly as if he was a ‘head master’.
He said Chaudhry Nisar behaved like a ‘viceroy’ who would even get angry with the prime minister and walk away.
Chandio said when the prime minister had insisted on attending the Senate, Nisar had told him to find another minister. He also pointed out that when he was upset with the PM, Nisar went to home. He said that Ch Nisar had made the Rangers issue a matter of life and death.
Chandio accused the interior minister of waiting for the expiry of the notification so that he could have another excuse to meddle in Sindh.
“We have made it clear already that we won’t fight with the federation because Pakistan’s prime minister is our PM too,” he said, adding that PPP had tolerated a lot of criticism only to ‘save’ democracy in the country.
The Sindh adviser said false news about Interior Minister’s contact with Sindh Chief Minister had surfaced. “We are still waiting for the minister to visit us and talk,” he said.
Responding to a question, Chandio said all ethnicities and provinces should be taken into confidence on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
“We’re not against Rangers,” he said, adding that the Sindh government was ‘proud’ of the operation.
Chandio said Qaim Ali Shah was the chief of the province even if he wasn’t the captain. He said CM Sindh had a mandate which the federation should respect.
The PPP leader said that Sindh government had conveyed its reservations to the federation within constitutional limits, hoping that PM Nawaz would take notice of it.
Responding to a question about Tharparkar drought and deaths of children due to malnutrition, Chandio said the reason for Thar’s current condition was not the drought but shortage of food and lack of healthcare facilities.
Regarding case against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, he said he didn’t want to level allegations against any party but the due process of the law must be followed even in this case.
