LAHORE - Police have intensified security around the Allama Iqbal international airport and other key government installations located in the city, in the wake of recent intelligence report indicating possible terror strike.
Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf yesterday directed the police to ensure snap-checking, by using mobile applications, of every vehicle at all the entry and exit points of the metropolis.
Addressing a meeting of the field officers, Haider Ashraf directed the officers to intensify armed patrolling around all important buildings. SSP (VVIP Security) Athar Ismail, SP (Headquarters) Omar Saeed, SP Mobiles Karrar Hussain and all divisional SPs were also present on this occasion.
The police yesterday night launched a massive search operation in the surrounding areas of the airport. The police also detained at least 16 suspects during the door-to-door search, a police spokesman said.
PU awards PhD degrees: The Punjab University has awarded PhD degrees to Javeria Jahangir d/o Maqbool Jahangir in the subject of South Asian Studies, after approval of her thesis entitled “Baloch Nationalism and its Impact on Political and Economic Development of Balochistan (2001-2014)”, and Munir Ahmad s/o Bashir Ahmad in the subject of Biological Sciences after approval of his thesis entitled “Optimization of Conditions for the Folding and Bioprocessing of Different Derivatives of Human Insulin”.
