Mayor allots green belts, plots in violation of rules

Islamabad-Mayor of Islamabad Sheikh Ansar Aziz while misusing his powers allotted public parks and green belts to private partners against the orders of the Supreme Court and the High Court as well as by-laws of the Capital Development Authority.

According to the documents available with the agency, the mayor allotted a public park situated on prime location in Islamabad to Serena Hotel in the name of beautification while a plot situated at the corner of Jinnah Avenue was allotted to Gulf Construction Company also.

Similarly, Sheikh Ansar while violating CDA rules and regulations allotted plots to Riphah University, Park Tower and Max Health Hospital, respectively.

The documents revealed that the Supreme Court in its judgment had prevented CDA to allot plots or green belts to any private company and person.

The SC had further stated in its ruling that if any private party wanted to decorate a park, then it could not charge any entry fee, construction of cabins or use of bill boards for advertisement.

Earlier, Justice Shaukat Siddique of Islamabad High Court during a case had directed CDA officials to take back all green belts and plots allotted to private companies in the name of beautification.

Law wing of the CDA had itself informed the former chairman CDA that allotment of a public park to Serena Hotel was against the SC and HC’s orders and had termed it as violation of CDA by-laws. However, Former Chairman CDA Sheikh Ansar while ignoring all objections caused billion of rupees losses to the national kitty.

Sheikh Ansar Aziz was not available for his comment.
