ISLAMABAD - Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif sought the help of lawyers fraternity to come forward and help him in establishing rule of law (Nizam-i-Adl) in the country where everybody would be equal before the law and dispensation of justice would be without any prejudice and bias.
Addressing the lawyers’ community and earlier talking to media outside the NAB court in Islamabad, disqualified premier Nawaz Sharif said that he was not in picture about the plight of justice system in the country and had he been in knowledge of that he would have done something concrete to provide quick and cheap justice to all.
In a lighter vein he said that he was sick of paying heavy fees to his lawyers and knew the condition of poor people, running from pillar to the post, seeking justice.
Nawaz said he was not at war with the apex court but his issue was with the verdict handed down by five-member bench disqualifying him on a trivial matter of keeping ‘Aqama’ whereas the case against him was of corruption in public money which they could not find even after scanning the accounts of his grandfather when he was just a school-going kid. The PML-N chief said that despite serious reservations over his disqualification verdict he had immediately implemented the court order as they believed in the supremacy of the institutions.
He further said that certain elements wanted his ouster and working on ‘minus one’ plan but with the Grace of God the people of Pakistan had foiled their designs and since his disqualification his popularity graph had increased manifolds, as no one has accepted his disqualification verdict.
Nawaz Sharif asked the lawyers community to join hands with him for his Nizam-i-Adl Movement (restoration of justice system) the way they had supported him in the judges’ restoration movement.
Nawaz Sharif said that he wanted to transform Pakistan into a true welfare state and once again sought the support of each and every Pakistani in his struggle particularly lawyers community which remained the forerunners in the movements for safeguarding the civil liberties and democracy.
The PML-N president said that it was Parliament which had allowed him to keep the party presidentship but certain elements were still out to get him ousted as PML-N president. ”I am living in the hearts of people and no one can snatch this love of people for him,” he added.
He regretted that those who had abrogated the constitution and imposed Martial Laws in the country could never be brought to justice but hoped that people of Pakistan were now strong enough to resist any such attempt now.
He said that it was time for retrospection and to look into the reason behind the fall of Dakha. Had the Hamoodur Rehman Report was seriously looked into and things were put in right frame the things would have been different now.
He said that Mujeebur Rehman was not a traitor and was pro-Pakistan but he was portrayed so by vested interests for their own nefarious designs.
On US President Donald Trump statement against Pakistan Nawaz Sharif said that it was insulting but quickly added: “we need to search for answers why it is so.”
Earlier talking to media persons outside the NAB court, Nawaz Sharif grilled Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan for his unbecoming role in the alleged marriage episode, saying after putting at stake the respect and honour of a family he went in oblivion leaving the family to defend their case.
Grilling Imran Khan for his moral turpitude, he said that instead of going in hiding on his alleged marriage he should come forward and put the facts straight before the people and prevented the family from coming forward in defence of the respected lady.
He also raised questions on reporting of his cases in NAB court and said that he was at loss to understand what was going on against him.
To a question about the upcoming protest announced by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, the PML-N chief said that they were facing protests and sit-in since coming into power in 2013 and survived all these conspiracies against the democratically elected government and would also survive these in the future as well.
To another question, Nawaz Sharif said that he was at loss to understand the nature of cases against him and come up with counter question to media whether they understand what was going on in NAB court against him.
