LAHORE - President Khushnood Ali Khan and General Secretary Aamir Mehmood of Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) have condemned the resolution of the Punjab Assembly, which declared media is a threat to democracy. In a statement on Friday, leaders of the CPNE said media has always worked for the restoration and strengthening of the democracy and it was regrettable that a democratic assembly has opined against the media. They said media has always played its best role in both democratic and dictatorship rule. They said non-democratic forces would take advantage of the clash among democratic institutions. They said political parties should feel proud of the free media instead of intimidating it. They further said the political parties were responsible to respect freedom of press. CNPE also stressed that media organisation should act upon the code of ethics and play positive role for the promotion of democracy.
