LONDON (AFP) A British marine has been killed while on foot patrol in a district of Afghanistan that British troops are soon to leave, officials said Friday. The marine was from 40 Commando Royal Marines and was killed in an explosion Thursday in the Sangin district of Helmand province, southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said. He died a marine, in the course of his duty and whilst improving the lives of local nationals in Sangin, military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel James Carr-Smith said. His family has been informed. The latest death brings to 314 the number of British forces personnel who have died in Afghanistan since 2001.
