LAHORE - The infuriated media men in the Punjab Assembly Friday refused to accept sympathy of Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Ch Zaheerud Din after the House had passed a resolution against the media however in the absence of the Opposition leader. Ch Zaheerud Din came to express solidarity with the journalists on the behalf of the Opposition when they (journalists) had boycotted the Assembly proceeding during passage of resolution against media. The furious media men refused to hear Ch Zaheer and received a cutting retort from the media man that all the members in the House are one against journalists. Ch Zaheer tried to appease the mediamen saying the Opposition was with the media and what has been served to them on the floor of the House was without their will and he was going to hold a press conference on the same. The mediamen however asked him to say whatever he has to, in the House instead of scoring his points on the issue outside. After a brief argument on both sides, Ch Zaheer again went inside. Later through a statement Ch Zaheeruddin explained position of the Opposition. He stated the Opposition has no concern with the resolution passed by the Assembly against media on Friday. He said over the last two days, his party had opposed the speeches and remarks against the media and it condemns torture and attacks on the mediamen. Zaheer said confrontation with mediamen is being fuelled under a conspiracy as the PML-N has never liked a free press. An open war with media, he said, is a part of the PML-N policy under which severe attacks were made on media for two days in the presence of the Chief Minister. He said media is target of the government for it has highlighted the issue of fake degree and ill-governance in the province whereof people are faced with law and order situation, usurpation of rights and economic problems. The government has opened front against media to hush up all that, he said adding, the kind of language used against media appears to be a conspiracy against democracy, which is highly condemnable.
