'Check menace of population

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE The adviser to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has stressed upon the need for making sincere and joint efforts to overcome the menace of rapid increase in population. Addressing a news conference, held here on Saturday, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said there was alarming increase in the world population which would reach to seven billion at the end of 2011. Pakistan will be the sixth biggest country of the world in the population graph, Zakia Shahnawaz said. She stated the world population was increasing at the rate of 2.05 per cent per annum. Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that Pakistan was placed 141st position in the ranking of countries of human resource development. The adviser stated that 65 million people in Pakistan were forced to live in single room residences and the ratio of unemployment has increased to eight per cent.
