Ministries differences delay 225MW project

SIALKOT (PPI) - The mega project of establishing 225MW power project along the banks of Upper Chenab Canal near Nandipur has been delayed due to the alleged differences between the Ministry of Water & Power and Ministry of Law, as both of these ministries were opposing each others proposals regarding the completion of this mega project. President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhary and President Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Sheikh Sarwat Ikram have expressed grave concern over the inordinate delay in the completion of this project, urging the government to remove all the hurdles in the way of timely completion of this project in the large interest of business community. The project of establishing 225 megawatts new power house near Nandipur along the banks of Upper Chenab Canal (UCC), at the junction of both neighbouring Sialkot and Gujranwala districts, had been started in 2008 and it had to be completed in December 2010. The civil work of this project has been completed. Some of the heavy machinery was lying unattended at this project site and some machinery was lying unattended at Karachi Port due to the alleged slackness of senior officials concerned. The officials concerned, while requesting anonymity, said that the differences between the above mentioned federal ministries was delaying the said project. The presidents of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) said that the early completion of this project was the need of the hour. They said that the project was also for providing uninterrupted power supply to the industries of Sialkot and Gujranwala.
