LAHORE - PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has endorsed the army deployment in Karachi for putting a stop to the ongoing carnage, saying the federal and Sindh governments have failed to maintain peace in the city. He however said that if called in, the armed force should work under the civilian command. The government has thoroughly failed in resolving all issues, including load-shedding, price-hike and terrorism. The same is true of the Karachi situation, which has become very critical after failure of police and Rangers in curtailing the killings, and now it should be discussed in the parliament as well, he said while talking to mediamen after offering his condolence to the bereaved family of lyricist Khawaja Pervaiz here on Saturday. Nawaz asked the federal government to unveil nefarious elements spoiling the peace in Karachi. He was of the view that the government should get help from army to establish peace in Karachi and to protect the lives and property of the people. The army operation can be launched in Karachi on a letter of the District Coordination Officer, he said as he expressed his grave concern over situation in Karachi, where over 100 people have been killed during the last four days. Why are the killers not brought to book if Rehman Malik says he knows the elements involved? he posed the question. He told the media that his party would sturdily take up the Karachi issue in the parliament. He said that the matter of suspended FIA Additional Director General Zafar Qureshi would be also raised. He questioned the reluctance of the government in convening the session of the parliament, and hoped that the highest legislative body would meet soon. To a question about PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his statement regarding the grand alliance, he said the comments of the cricket-legend-turned politician could be correct for a fast bowler, but they did neither carry any weight nor substance in the political milieu. His language was uncouth. He hid himself somewhere on the day of the long march (for the restoration of judges), said Nawaz Sharif, while asserting that Imran Khan had a written script which he keeps on repeating. His assertions do not carry any meaning. He should talk sense and converse in a civilised manner, advised Nawaz Sharif.
