LAHORE - Fed-up by the pathetic condition of the national airline mainly due to unionism, the business community has suggested the government to include PIA in the list of essential services and all sorts of unionism should be banned permanently.  They said that discourteous, incompetent crew, repeated delays in flight schedules and absence of facilities to the travelers have turned PIA into a white elephant in true sense of the word and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should direct its restructuring to save it from total destruction.

They urged the govt to shift head offices of all Public Sector Enterprises including PIA to Islamabad as it would help government monitor their performance to turn them into efficient institutions. They said that the condition of national flag carrier is pathetic and either the government should privatize it or some competent person should be made in charge to bring it back on track. “Its sales offices have become more union offices than the sales offices.” LCCI former SVP Abdul Basit said that delays in flights take-off and arrivals, misbehave with passengers and dirt/garbage everywhere and unhygienic food are some the features that are contributing to its downfall.

Chairman PIAF Tahir Javed malik said that the only solution to these ills is shifting of the head offices of Public Sector Enterprises to Islamabad after purging it of corrupt, inefficient political appointees who are enjoying all perks at the cost of exchequer.

Chairman Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front Malik Tahir Javaid said that the heavy dependence of the national flag-carrier on government funding and little attention towards to solution of problems of its clients has not only affected its reputation but its performance as well. He said that with a small number of fit-to-fly planes, the PIA would not be able to survive for a long if due attention was not given to solve governance issues.
