Fire caused by an electric short circuit gutted more than 30 shops in an oil market here in Faisalabad in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to rescue sources, the fire broke out in a godown of the oil market located in Karkhana Bazar, blowing up the drums of oil which created panic in the area.

Due to inflammable material the fire spread rapidly and engulfed the surrounding shops.

Ten fire brigades reached the site of the incident and extinguished the fire after three-hour long hectic efforts. Meantime, more than 30 shops were gutted.

According to initial probe report the incident occurred due to a short circuit. However, police said that possibility of terrorism could not be ruled out.
